Acosta Dance Centre 1st Year Anniversary Fundraising-Gala. 7 October 2024. 7 – 11 PM.

Get ready to enjoy a dazzling night at the Acosta Dance Centre as we take you on a multi-sensory journey to experience the sights, sounds, and tastes of Cuba, all while celebrating what we have been able to achieve in the past year with the unyielding support of our dedicated donors.
Let the Acosta Dance Foundation team and Carlos Acosta give you a taste of Cuban hospitality with Cuban-inspired dishes, delectable drinks, and sensational live music.
Performances will include Acosta Danza Yunior (Comprising of recent graduates from the Acosta Danza Academy in Cuba), the mighty Luanda Pau with an Afro-Cuban piece crafted especially for this event, and Latin Grammy-award winner and Olivier Award nominee Hammadi Rencurell Valdes with his band.
There will be various opportunities throughout the night to support our incredible charitable programmes, whether it be funding to build solar panels for the Academy in Cuba, providing expert guest teaching for dancers on our free Acosta Advanced Training Hub, opportunities for emerging choreographers to develop their artistic projects with us or creating accessible spaces for the local community to learn Cuban dance and ballet.
For one night and one night only, the Thames becomes the Havana Malecon. An utterly unmissable event.

Join us for an inspiring journey into the world of Community Dance. The Acosta Dance Foundation and the Acosta Dance Centre are pleased to announce a second year of collaboration with Tanztheater Performance Group. As a cornerstone of the foundation’s Education and Community Programmes, we are proud to present four complimentary workshops, inviting you to immerse yourself in the transformative potential of movement. Join us as we discover how dance serves as a profound catalyst for connection, empathy, and boundless creativity.

Embodying the values of identity, continuity, respect, diversity, and creativity, our Community Dance group celebrates the universal language of dance. Rooted in the rich cultural legacies of Cuban traditions together with the identity of Tanztheater performance group, we come together to share our stories, experiences, and voices through movement.

Led by Tanztheater Director Adrian Look, our open-level workshops offer a welcoming space for participants of all backgrounds and abilities. Throughout the sessions, we will delve into the fundamentals of community dance projects, nurturing authentic connections, and fostering a spirit of acceptance and peacefulness.

Through our unique Questioning and Answering approach we will explore how movement can be used to tell meaningful human stories. Together, we will unite as a diverse group to create and share our choreographic expressions, celebrating the beauty of individuality and collective creativity.

At the end of our journey, we will showcase a new piece at the Acosta Dance Centre on Sunday, December 8, 2024, highlighting the culmination of our exploration and collaboration. Past performances have taken place in various venues including Woolwich Works, each adding its unique flavour to our artistic expression.

No extensive dance education is required to join our Performance Group. Whether you’re drawn to physical theatre, or acting, or simply have a passion for movement, all are welcome to join us in embracing the joy and power of dance. Come and let’s embark on this transformative journey together, where every step tells a story.

Please note that the community workshop consists of four days, including Sunday 13 October / Sunday 20 October /  Sunday 10 November & Sunday 17 November 2024. The performance date is planned for Sunday 8 December (all day in attendance).
