Every project and student we help, every uniform and ballet shoe we provide comes at a price. Without skilled teachers, choreographers, mentors and artists, our Foundation would not be able to offer all the dance services we deliver. That is why now, more than ever, your contribution through donations, small and large, is so essential to us.
Whenever you make a gift to the Acosta Dance Foundation, become a Supporter or a Patron or leave a gift in your will, you play a paramount role in changing hundreds of children’s and young adult’s lives by allowing them to have a career in dance.
Your gift to the Acosta Dance Foundation will support entire communities, not just one organization. In our more than a decade of history, the ADF has invested enormous funds in supporting, strengthening and introducing dance to the most deprived areas of Cuba. Now, our work will extend to those unrepresented within the dance industry in the UK.
Our grants translate to creating dancers without the possibility of studying the art form, impactful Residencies & Fellowships, Community engagement initiatives & Educational Programmes, Ballet Camps and much more.

This Patron level is dedicated to Mirta Hermida. Mirta was an incredible ballet pedagogue, a woman who breathed dance and devoted her entire life to coaching a unique generation of Cuban dancers, including Carlos Acosta.
This level is dedicated to the outstanding Maitre de Ballet and one of the most notable figures in Dance Pedagogy in Cuba and the world Ms Ramona de Saa Bello. She is internationally recognized for building the current dance teaching system in Cuba. Her work has been decisive in developing the country’s ballet education system and has played a pivotal role in Carlos’ professional development.
Ramiro Guerra (Havana, 1922), a leading figure in the world of Cuban dance. During his long career in dance, which began in the 1940s, Ramiro left an indelible mark on Contemporary Dance of Cuba, Conjunto Folklórico Nacional, National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), the Ballet of Camagüey, and as a teacher working with many of the dance companies and groups and dancers including Carlos. It is for a good reason, therefore, that he is considered to be the Father of Dance on the island.
A rich dance legacy was assured in Cuba many years ago by the two mythical figures who founded the Cuban National Ballet and the Cuban Ballet School: Fernando Alonso and his wife, Alicia Alonso. Cuban ballerina Alicia Alonso was considered a legend in the world of ballet. She danced various roles but was best known for her lively, precise Giselle and sensual, tragic Carmen. Considered one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century, Alicia and Fernando both played a pivotal role in the foundation of the Cuban Ballet School – a school that gives so much glory to Carlos’ birth country. The Alonsos opened the doors of classical ballet for all the young people of the American continent who dreamed of dancing and put the name of Cuba on the billboards of the most significant international stages.
Carlos Acosta is the Chairman and Founder of the Acosta Dance Foundation and considered, perhaps, the most famous dancer of his generation. Carlos is a career that wasn’t meant to be – a tough kid from the backstreets of Havana who was forced to study ballet and became a reluctant star. His combination of talent, dedication and charisma has taken him to perform on the most famous stages worldwide. Among them are Paris Ballet, the Russian Ballet and the Royal Ballet. Acosta is that rarest of things – a ballet dancer who has pirouetted into the public consciousness. Sine 2011, the Foundation he founded has significantly impacted the lives of hundreds of dancers and students worldwide. Since its creation, Carlos has delivered significant changes in how people access and use dance services and the structure of global dance markets.
