Matteo & Noemi

Fellowship dates: 17th – 26th September 2024

Matteo and Noemi are co-founders of the Italian dance company VIDAVÈ.

About their dance piece concept

As VIDAVÈ, choreographic duo Matteo and Noemi explore physical and emotional intimacy in contemporary movement. Their piece focuses on trust, communication, and the nuances of partnership — both in literal partnering work and in the broader sense of co-creating space together. With a background in contact work and collaborative processes, they approached the fellowship as a laboratory for dialogue between young dancers and professional choreographers, with an emphasis on openness, connection, and embodied empathy.

What Matteo & Noemi Has to Say

“Today we started with an intimacy coordinator — that in itself shows how deeply we care about creating a safe, collaborative environment for everyone involved.”

“Research is always enriching and new — even for professionals, it can be tricky. Seeing young dancers step into it with such curiosity is inspiring; it’s a beautiful opportunity to exchange, to understand their feelings, thoughts, and capacities, and to discover and grow together.”

“We’re not just looking at technique. We’re looking for dancers’ openness — their playfulness, their willingness to work in partnership. That’s where something special begins.”

Quotes from AATH dancers

“At the start it felt awkward, but over ten days we just relaxed into each other — now it feels like we’re a family. I trust everyone with my weight. I feel like I could dance anything, and it wouldn’t even feel weird anymore.”

“Working with Matteo and Noemi was so inspiring. Watching their connection encouraged us to push further, trust ourselves and each other, and explore new ways of moving. They didn’t just create a piece — they helped us grow, improving our improvisation skills and deepening our connections. The environment they created was safe, supportive, and unlike anything we had experienced before — it felt real, and it allowed us to take risks and truly develop as artists.”

“Connecting with the audience was my favourite part — bringing them into our space and looking into their eyes made everything feel natural and alive.”
